Elderly and disabled people in the Bristol area can find out how they can get around faster by hiring power chairs and motor scooters for lengthy test drives.
The hire service from Bedminster-based Access Able enables people with limited mobility to find out if a powered vehicle will suit them without committing to the major costs of buying.
The hire scheme, which enables people to try out the scooters for as long a period as they want, has been launched to coincide with the Spring weather, which is tempting people with limited mobility back out on to the streets.
Access Able boss Bob Sansom said: “Every Spring many older, frail or partially disabled people who have been stuck indoors for long periods during the winter find that they do not have the same range of movement as they had last year.
“Many are understandably reluctant to accept they need the support of mobility aids and others remain to be convinced that a power chair or scooter will make that much difference to their lives.
“Mobility scooters and power chairs are a considerable investment and that’s why we are making them available for hire so that people can try them before making a decision on whether to buy. The hire period can be for a day, a week or even a month or more so they can see how well they will cope.
“We find some older people are particularly anxious about the controls, balance and road handling and our hire scheme allows them to put any model from our entire range through its paces to find the one that best suits their needs.”
The Access Able range includes car friendly scooters, 4 and 6mph scooters, 8mph road legal scooters, Bariatric range scooters along with secondhand and reconditioned scooters.
Access Able is also providing Spring mechanical service checks for those who already own a power wheelchair or scooter. For information on the hire scheme call 0117 980 1820 or visit Access Able in St John’s Lane, Bedminster, Bristol.
