Bristol wheelchair provider Access Able donates brand new wheelchairs to zoo

Noahs Ark FarmA popular tourist attraction in Bristol known for its commitment to ‘access for all’ is celebrating the extension of its services for disabled visitors with a new partnership with Bristol company Access Able to provide free-hire wheelchairs at the zoo.

Working  with Access Able owner Bob Sansom, Noah’s Ark can now offer a small fleet of quality new wheelchairs to disabled visitors to use free of charge during their visit to the zoo.

The new wheelchairs are specially designed to be well suited to the parks terrain, making use by carers and partners easier around the access-audited zoo paths.  A handy Access Able bag comfortably attached to back of the wheelchair also makes for easy transporting of personal belongings during a visit.

2014 has been a busy year for Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm with the arrival of their first elephant, Buta in February and an adorable baby giraffe born in July.  Visitors have been flocking to see the impressive range of exotic animals, a success for business but one which puts higher demands on the facilities and services at the 110 acre park.

Growth in visitor numbers has meant accessibility has become an increasing priority on the zoo management’s agenda.

Bob Sansom, the owner of Access Able, hopes that the new wheelchairs will mean that the whole family will be able to visit Noah’s Ark for a fun inclusive family day out, without anyone needing to stay at home and miss out which can sometimes be the result if access provision at the destination isn’t good enough.

Access Able, based in St Johns Lane, Bedminster, are well known for their generous support of local initiatives and charities and their passion to help make more local places accessible for all.

Access Able specialises in selling, hiring, maintaining and servicing mobility and accessibility equipment.  This includes wheelchairs, mobility scooters, stair lifts and daily living aids.  Staff are always friendly and helpful, willing to spend the time finding the right solutions for their customers.

Zoo spokesman Jon Woodward said ‘the sponsorship from Access Able has helped us provide a top quality service and to go the extra mile for our disabled visitors, we are truly grateful for their support’.

In 2012 Noah’s Ark were awarded the ‘Access for All’ award at the Bristol Tourism and Hospitality Awards in recognition of efforts to be fully accessible and to cater for everyone.
